Consultation hours for Certification as an Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) through iaedp must be completed with an approved Certified Eating Disorder Specialist-Consultant (CEDS-C). Hours can be accrued either individually or as part of a group. Up to 12 of the required 24 hours can be completed as part of a group.
Group Consultation
I offer a virtual, multi-disciplinary consultation group for those seeking certification:
- Small group format of three to six members
- 10 sessions over a 12 month period
- Sessions are 75 minutes each to allow time for in-depth discussion of cases and educational material
- The focus is on providing high-quality care to eating disorder clients with a particular focus on the clinician’s countertransference experience
Review guidelines for consultation here.
Individual Consultation
I offer one-time and ongoing consultation to licensed professionals working with eating disorder clients. If you are seeking consultation for Certification (CEDS), a 12 month commitment is recommended.
Note: Consultation is not considered supervision for provisionally licensed clinicians.
Am I the right consultant for you?
Finding the right fit in a consultant is important. I believe in the benefit of professional consultation and have participated in consultation groups for many years, beyond any requirements for licensing or certification. My approach to consultation is:
- To build confidence working with the population you’d like to work with
- To help keep qualified professionals (you!) in the field by preventing burnout and providing a resource to manage complex cases
- To develop a deeper understanding of our clients and our countertransference with them by using psychodynamic theories and techniques
The eating disorder field is broad and diverse. I have the most experience in the following areas:
- Individual therapy in outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP), and partial hospitalization (PHP) settings
- Group therapy in IOP and PHP settings
- Therapeutic yoga in individual, IOP, and PHP settings
- Leadership in IOP and PHP programs
- Individual therapy in a college counseling center
- Individual therapy in private practice, both insurance-based and private pay
When is seeking professional consultation a good idea?
- When you are feeling stuck with a client who has an eating disorder
- When you need assistance in recommending the right level of care for your client with an eating disorder
- When your client’s condition, or comments about food, weight, or exercise elicit strong feelings in you
- When you are interested in expanding your practice to include eating disorder work
