Why work with an eating disorder specialist?

Certification as an eating disorder specialist through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) requires intensive training and supervision, as well as thousands of hours of experience in the field. Working with a CEDS provides reassurance that your therapist has experience with and dedication to treating eating disorders.

However, the advantages of working with a CEDS go beyond treatment of diagnosed eating disorders. If you identify with any of the following, you’d likely benefit from this specialized perspective:

  • You suspect you may have a disordered relationship with food, but aren’t sure
  • You experience body image distress, regardless of your relationship with food
  • You exercise excessively, have a hard time resting or taking time off when injured
  • You are in recovery or recovered, and want to work on an unrelated concern
  • You are supporting a loved one who may have an eating disorder
